A number of fat girls were given video cameras a few years back, and were asked to document their experiences in order to help determine why they're fat. The starvation imagery follow-up was done recently. The article does touch on some real issues; at least one of the girls has an eating disorder, and all of them have (arguably) low body-image. But there's a couple of disturbing undercurrents in this article. First, there's the old, tired, and worn stereotype that all fat people are fat because of what they eat. |
