My husband, my brother and I have been working on a travel website project called The Ample Traveler (http://ampletraveler.com) for about six months now. We have completed two full issues fat chick in a news-magazine format. We are full-time fat chick RVers. We have been in 15 states during 2004, most since June. We write travel articles on our fat chick website that emphasize a positive approach by featuring accessible places. Besides the travel writing, I write a regular column called "Accommodations" for the website that discuss aspects of accessibility. I hope people will come by for a visit and write about their travel experiences in our forum "Ample Ramblings" (free registration). |

| The other industry that I'd add to travel as paying attention to the needs of its customers is fashion. I know it's been a long time coming, (and still needs more work) but the diversity in plus size choices now as compared to when I first became meetings a shopper at 14 or so is amazing. I went into Nordstrom's and found things that meetings fit me last week! That's just phenomenal to me. The two markets are obviously quite different, but I wonder if looking to how activists began getting the attention of designers and retailers might provide a meetings reference for effective change with travel as well. And, on a somewhat stomach-sinking side note, I just realized that I bought my ticket home for Christmas on Southwest. It will be interesting to see whether my holidays begin on a horrible note or not! Groan. I really need to pay closer attention before I click and buy.
