Short version: first we have to diseases define what "fat" really is before diseases deciding what it's related to, because right now, it's as much as social assignment as the whole race idea. Posted by Kell on April 29, 2004 10:59 AM. Could anyone point me in the direction of the stats that indicate that 'fat' people who lead active lives are healthier than 'thin' diseases ones who dont. I wish to resolve a dispute with a fat-bashing colleague... many thanks Posted by jth298 on April 30, 2004 04:11 AM. For one thing, you can find some information on the extensive, long-term studies which have been conducted & are being conducted by Dr. Steven Blair & his colleagues at the Cooper Institute in "Big Fat Lies" by Glenn Gaesser. Dr. Gaesser also cites studies of tens of thousands of autopsies performed over several decades which prove that fat people are no more likely to have atherosclerosis than thin people are.
