I did link here from MetaFilter & I did read the FAQ & Guidelines before posting. I posted to this site rather than elsewhere because this is the source of the interview I wanted to comment on. I don't disagree with everything Paul Campos said and focused on his dismissal of medical evidence because I thought I could provide some concrete counter examples. |

| damn lies, & statistics. This "war on fat" doesn't have a damn thing to do with health. As Paul says, we fat tuesday are healthier overall & living longer than ever before. My own fat relatives have lived to between 85 & 101; they didn't listen well to threats. All of this is about prejudice, the need to have someone to use as a scapegoat, &, most of all, it is about money. It fat tuesday is very hard to make money off people who believe that they are good enough as they are. And I think that I will skip reading MeFi, fat tuesday thank you very much. The most common response I've read with this article is, "Obesity [sic] and inactivity are linked, and can't be separated." I do enjoy how that's a part of the larger obesity myth and yet it's so ingrained in our society that people outside of the movement are more likely to say that than give Campos a real chance. |
