Losing weight, in my opinion, will have little effect on diseases and I suspect dieting that the exercise people engage in to lose weight (usually a short-term deal for dieting most people) offers benefits that they attribute to weight. Posted dieting by cshock on April 29, 2004 09:45 AM. By the way, I should have signed the above -- I keep forgetting that only my log-in name shows when I comment. One last comment on the question of the literature: I don't believe the "it" in Paul's argument was "a correlation," I believe "it" was a cause and effect relationship. That is what anyone who tells you to lose weight is asserting: that fat causes a disease and that losing weight will have a positive effect on your risk of disease. --Pattie Thomas BTW, thanks for all the great comments regarding the interview. I hope the discussion continues because I think Paul's got a great perspective on the oppression of fat hatred and one worthy of debate and examination.
