My father is in his late sixties, has a BMI of about 30, and his doctor is constantly telling him to lose weight. And, sadly, there is not much I can say to convince my parents that the doctor is wrong, and that his advice is dangerous. Perhaps this study will be useful as one more tool to convince my parents to finally stop dieting! |

| I don't mind that statistically epidemiologists want to dig deeper and understand how much is breathlessness the effect of fat, or lack thereof, of smoking, etc. But there are so many studies suggesting that fat is not always dangerous, may even have some protective effects, and in any event cannot be safely "cured," that it seems to me any doctor still recommending weight loss is acting with shameful recklessness. Can you imagine a doctor still advising a healthy older person to breathlessness lose weight - when according to this study that would put them in breathlessness the category with a higher risk of death? They will still do it, and they will still rationalize why this study isn't really "relevant".
