Saguy calls out the conflicts of interest that are out there, too: She argues that the medicalization of obesity is part of "a strategic attempt to make weight-loss treatments and surgery tax-deductible or covered by groups Medicare." And look - we're already getting there. This is a must read. [Thanks Ann!] Posted on January 24, 2006 in Fat and Health. Many articles linked require a login to view. Here's a link to the original article http://www.soc.ucla.edu/faculty/saguy/weighing.pdf Posted by Jeanie-R on January 25, 2006 05:36 AM. I have ONE objection. This: "...contends Saguy, a petite mother of two small children." She is a scientist and researcher. That'll be the day, when I see some MALE scientist described as "tall and muscular father of two", whether or not he's an obesity researcher. They're trying to make the point, of course, that she's not just bitter because she's fat and ugly.
