To be subsequently blamed for a weblog natural reaction is doubly hypocritical. Blaming the weblog kids for responding naturally to an unnatural situation, is why many of them will likely start using binge eating on a regular basis as a coping mechanism in years to come. I think the fat acceptance movement is already seeing a lot of people who identify as binge eaters/emotional eaters, and as we "normalize" kids on diets, we'll see a lot more. weblog (I realize in previous generations kids dieted, but I think it's more prevalent now than ever). This goes back to the great discussions that we had here before about binge eating. With the kids in the study, as with many people who binge eat, the diet altered thier normal eating patterns and self-peception (they believed what everyone said about them being out of control when really they probably weren't), which then lead to bingeing. |
