Posted by turtlegrrl on October 7, 2003 08:42 PM. Well... I read the article and wondered something. As I understand it, first they weighed kids and asked them if they were. Later on, they weighed them again. The ones who were dieting body fat scale gained more weight. But... body fat scale the article doesn't mention if they kids who had dieted had body fat scale recently lost weight. Or if they were already fatter than the ones who weren't dieting. Or anything else that could skew the results. I would expect that both fat and thin kids who had recently lost 10 lbs by dieting would be likely to regain the weight. Adults do! So, in that case, on average, kids who had lost weight (particularly through dieting) just before the first weighing would "gain" faster than those who hadn't recently lost weight. I would also expect kids who were already chubby or fat to gain weight faster than kids who were already rail thin.
