The one pill you take and causes an immediate weight loss. Bam! No more Lane Bryant, no more discrimination against fat people - no more fat people. It's so... neat. Stephen sent over a BBC article detailing work on such a pill through examination of a protein, zinc alpha 2 glycoprotein (ZAG). Apparently, this protein - present in cancer patients - can cause weight loss no matter what the food intake is. An ethical dilemma, to be sure. That's the issue at hand as higher-ups consider making the change. If obesity was classified as a disease, health insurance companies might have low fat cooking to pick up the tab for things such as gastric bypass surgery and weight-loss snafus... er, plans. First, low fat cooking NAAFA's Paul Ernsberger continues the tradition of Pauls in Fat Acceptance by stating: "When something is a disease it doesn't have beneficial or neutral effects. There's a decreased incidence of osteoporosis in older people who are overweight. Where some cancers are increased, there are others that are decreased. So calling it a disease is misleading." Indeed it is. Tim Church at the Cooper Institute in Dallas also chimes in, noting that fat people who exercise can be healthier than a at-weight people who don't exercise.
