That's the issue at hand as higher-ups consider making the change. If obesity was classified as a disease, health insurance companies might have low fat cooking to pick up the tab for things such as gastric bypass surgery and weight-loss snafus... er, plans. There's a decreased incidence of osteoporosis in older people who are overweight. Where some cancers are increased, there are others that are decreased. So calling it a disease is misleading." Indeed it is. Tim Church at the Cooper Institute in Dallas also chimes in, noting that fat people who exercise can be healthier than a at-weight people who don't exercise.
