Not to be flippant with the drink title of this entry, but lately I've been seeing a lot of articles ("editorials") saying that those darn fat people are taking up too much of the skinny people's space. Oh, look, drink another one. It cannot be long before someone has the bright idea of suing an airline, or perhaps a long-distance coach company, on the ground that carrying obese people is a risk to normal-sized passengers. Perhaps it will happen, and then we can finally get all of the issues on the table at once. This petty, stupid, whiny attitude that a lot of people are taking is growing very tired. It's time to face it: if you're afraid of fat, trying to regulate it and outlaw it and hate it won't make it go away. There's a definite barrier between those who understand and those who won't even make the effort to understand, and I think that barrier is caused by fear of the unknown. |
