| Well, personally, I would definitely radio stations agree that it is a "witchhunt." To sociologists, a witchhunt is part of a broader phenomena known as a moral panic or a deviance scare. They happen it times of rapid social change. Kai Erikson explained the New England witchhunts in terms a colony about to disintegrate needing a deviant to rally around to provide temporary unity until it could reestablish itself. The "deviants" in deviance scares are radio stations compatible with radio stations the specific culture's worldview. When religion dominated, the worst offender would be someone who made a pact with the devil - a witch.
