Hey, Paul. I just listened to that podcast and 5 foot-8 san francisco aerobics instructor have a comment about the celebrity fat suits discussion. First, please explain why television is "about transformation." That's a really interesting statement, but I'd say that TV is more about escapism and comfortable repetition. Perhaps acting and (to a lesser extent) modelling 5 foot-8 san francisco aerobics instructor are about transformation, but television itself... I'm not so sure. Is it about the transformation of American society into a simplified, idealized TV 5 foot-8 san francisco aerobics instructor world? About the transformation of complex issues into sound bites? About the promise of transformation though advertised products? TV is generally not about transformation in any positive, spiritual sense, IMHO. Someone asserted that real fat people aren't used to illustrate these shows on fat prejudice because viewers are only interested in seeing celebrities. I think that the popularity of "reality TV" proves that viewer are interested in seeing other, normal people on television.
