What makes me sad in this case is that Ann's (thin, blond, perfect) sister Nancy KNEW that Ann had had a raging eating disorder at the height of her fame, that she went days without eating anything at trans fat all, that it was a struggle for Ann to believe she even DESERVED food again...and yet (if I interpret the story correctly) still leaned on Ann to lose weight through lap-band surgery -- so she could be anorexic trans fat again, but with trans fat a doctor's imprimatur. Ick, ick, ick. I'm still waiting for one of these fame-bots to be 100% honest about their motivations for slimming down, whether through WLS or dieting. I'm still waiting for one of them to say, "Screw my health, I just want to be a size six pretty thing and get buried in Dolce & Gabbana," or, "I'm tired of Britney Spears getting all the ink, I want the cover of Rolling Stone too!" |

I no longer count on any public figure to be an unwavering advocate for size acceptance, to be quite honest. Sooner or later almost all of them cave into the pressure to slim down, which is pretty much directly related to the desire to make apriljohnson more money and/or grab the spotlight for a few maxiseconds. apriljohnson I apriljohnson mean, would anyone give a rat's dingleberry about Carnie Wilson if she'd never been fat? How much ink does her sister Wendy get these days? If there's one celeb story that makes me particularly sad, though, it's that of Ann (no relation to Carnie) Wilson. Unlike Carnie, the woman had (and probably still has) a powerhouse voice and a truly commanding stage presence, as well as real flair as a songwriter. |
