Obese children are also at risk of developing insulin resistance and NAFLD. Steatosis may have a negative impact on treatment outcomes for people infected with genotype 1 but not with genotype 3. Indeed, successful treatment often involves a resolution of the steatosis for genotype 3 people. Two recent prospective studies [1], [2] involving patients deemed to have mild hepatitis C on initial biopsy, found a strong, independent connection between steatosis and more rapid fibrosis progression.
